Hi friends, neighbors and fellow animal lovers!
We’re Charlotte and Evan, co-founders, kitten cuddlers and longtime believers in the magical, heart-expanding power that is unlocked when people open their hearts and home to an animal in need — and after almost two years of learning, planning, fostering, volunteering (and many sleepless nights bottle-feeding little furballs), we’re thrilled to finally announce we’re officially launching a nonprofit kitten rescue, Two Hearts Kitten Rescue!
So, what inspired us to do this?
Besides an obsessive love for animals, it was a desire to use our unique professional experience and skills in a more meaningful way – and what better way to do so than helping save the lives of one of the most at-risk shelter groups, kittens?
Cue the Learning Journey
As we mentioned, almost two years ago, we officially embarked on what we now lovingly refer to as our learning journey. Picture a road trip, but instead of souvenirs, we collected wisdom, industry certifications, friends and mentors, and a few thousand hours of experience.
In doing so, we set out to deepen our understanding of the animal welfare landscape and shelter operations, identify industry trends, challenges and existing needs, and ultimately, discover opportunities to deliver meaningful impact and value.
During this time we:
- Met with dozens of shelter professionals and animal welfare advocates across several states
- Completed several animal welfare courses and university programs that helped us gain perspective-shifting knowledge and insights (yes, we’re nerds)
- Began fostering bottle babies and young kittens again
- Logged plenty of volunteer hours and made many wonderful new friends, mentors and memories along the way
- Charlotte joined the Smitten Kitten Nursery team at Heidi’s Village
It was also during this time that our purpose became clear and that our path forward would be one focused on helping our tiny feline friends.
So, we decided to go all in…
And with that, Two Hearts Kitten Rescue Was Born
Today, Two Hearts Kitten Rescue is on the cusp of turning our vision into something tangible. We’re thrilled to share that we’re in the process of transitioning from fostering kittens to launching our kitten rescue and raising the money needed to secure a physical location for the dedicated kitten nursery a space specifically designed to give vulnerable kittens the specialized care they need to survive and thrive. But we can’t do it alone. And that’s where you come in.
Next Up, Establishing Our Kitten Care HQ and You Can Help Us Get There
We’re currently raising the funds needed to cover the costs to:
- Lease our first facility and make the necessary improvements
- Stock up on essential life-saving supplies and equipment
- Cover startup costs like veterinary and legal services, software and marketing
The good news? We already have some incredible momentum, and the support we’ve been getting has been incredibly encouraging but it’s clear we need a community of big-hearted humans to help us cross the finish line.
Every dollar gets us closer to establishing a dedicated nursery. Every donation helps us save more kittens. And every share, comment or kind word spreads the love a little farther!
